R 18+ Games in Australia

Australians will be able to buy sexually explicit computer games legally for the first time, under a Federal Government proposal.

Australia is currently the only developed nation in the world without an adults-only classification for computer/console games. Although there was a survey that found that four out of 5 Australian's would rather there be a rating of R18+

The Minister for Justice, Brendan O'Connor had this to say,
''Introducing the new classification will give parents better advice about what games are suitable for their children, while allowing adults to view material designed for adults.''
The proposed guidelines will still ban any game that depicts excessive violence, sexual violence or child sex, or that promotes illicit drug-use.
The Government has proposed five categories - G, PG, M, MA15+ and R18+ - as well as a refused-classification category. Classifiers will assess each game's themes and its uses of violence, sex, language, drug use and nudity and consider how a ''reasonable adult'' would regard those uses.
Earlier this year, Australian censors banned Mortal Kombat, saying ''violence that exceeds strong in impact''.
The game's developer, Warner Bros, appealed the decision but was unsuccessful.

Hoping this all goes as planned Australians could be seeing an R18+ rating on games in the future and no more stupid bans causing us to find other means of getting our hands on these games.

That's some news that came to my mind today,
Not that you care.
